Tarja HalonenPresident of the Republic of Finland Ms Tarja Halonen has become a patron for the Finnish equality campaign “Uskalla” (in English: Dare). The campaign launched in August 2009 by four young volunteers aims to improve the circumstances of homosexual and lesbian athletes in sports.

Already before in August, the Minister of Culture and Sport of Finland Mr Stefan Wallin supported the campaign and said that all the organisations and public authorities that can help to spread the message of the campaign, should take care in getting the message as much attention and power as possible.

The campaign Uskalla consists of website www.uskalla.fi, a poster and a post card. The campaign has been organized by the group of four young Finnish volunteers and has been funded with support from the programme of the European Comission “Youth In Action”. The main partners of the campaign are Finnish Sports Federation and the main Finnish LGBT rights organisation SETA.
